Pillows: The Record Breakers!
Welcome to the third edition of our fun and intriguing 'Record Breakers' series of blog articles. We've already looked at some record-breaking hats and t-shirts and for this edition we turn our attention to pillows. As usual, expect the sublime and the ridiculous, sometimes in the very same record!
World's Largest Pillow
We begin with this unusual entry into the record books, which was created by employees of China's Sinomax Group, a business which specialises in the manufacture of mattresses and pillows though usually on a much more manageable scale! Confirmed by officials as the world's largest pillow, their mammoth creation measured 18.6 metres in length and 26.6 metres in width.
World's Longest Line of Pillows
As a rule, business meetings can be a little bit dull but this certainly wasn't the case when employees of international home furniture supplier JYSK got together in Berlin, Germany earlier this year. The meeting culminated with the successful setting of this record, which saw the employees create an unbroken line of pillows stretching to a staggering 1,535 metres!
Record-Breaking Pillow Fights
You may be surprised to learn that there are several records related to pillow-fighting. Here are three of our favourites:
- Featured at the 2019 Pulse Movement event, a Christian concert in Minnesota, USA attended by over 60,000 people, the world's largest pillow fight consisted of no less than 7,681 participants.
- The longest-running pillow fight tournament ran for 40 years from 1966 to 2006 in California, USA. Not content with simply fighting with pillows, the 100 fighters who took part in each tournament did so while perched precariously on a steel pole above a large muddy puddle!
- In 2022, the world's first pay-per-view pillow fight was broadcast, with viewers paying $12.99 each (around 136.00 SEK) to watch the action. The participants, all of whom are professional boxers and MMA fighters, took part in three brutal rounds of what was described as "hardcore swinging with specialised pillows".
Most Marshmallows Propelled into the Mouth with a Pillow in One Minute
We finish with what must surely be one of the most bizarre records ever to have been set. In 2019, Ashrita Furman of New York, USA, used a pillow to launch 27 marshmallows into his mouth in 60 seconds. Why? We can only guess...
