Gildan Garments: A Commitment to Sustainable Cotton

When we founded Texprint, we did so with the intention of changing the way things are traditionally done by many players in the fashion industry. While we of course want to provide garments and accessories of superb quality, we also want to protect our sensitive environment. So we found a way to do both!

We have built our business with some fundamental principles firmly in mind, keeping our own environmental impact to a minimum in many ways such as by using energy and water wisely and considerately. We only produce garments to order, ensuring that there is no waste because the buyer has really considered their desire for that particular garment and no inventory is wasted unnecessarily. We have also chosen to source our blank garments from suppliers who have demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable production.

One of these suppliers, which you will probably already be familiar with, is Gildan. With roots that date back almost eight decades to 1946, Gildan relies heavily on cotton to produce its distinctive range of garments; cotton accounts for approximately 80% of the brand's total fibre usage. More than 90% of the cotton Gildan uses is grown in the United States of America.

The United States Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency tightly regulates the production of cotton in the USA. Guidelines and legal frameworks established by these agencies have helped farmers to make significant reductions of negative environmental impacts, teaching them how to use resources for maximum efficiency and introducing new technologies and methodologies.

The health and safety regulations which USA cotton farmers must adhere to are recognised as being among the strictest on the planet. They must utilise systems that monitor soil health closely so that erosion is minimised. A growing number of farmers are adopting the use of GPS positioning systems to increase efficient usage of land.

Gildan has demonstrated its commitment to producing sustainable cotton by partnering with numerous organisations including USTCP (United States Cotton Trust Protocol). The organisation was established in an effort to 'set a new standard in more sustainably grown cotton' by ensuring that cotton growing methods better protect and preserve the environment. Gildan has also been a manufacturing and retail member of The Better Cotton Initiative since 2015.

Here at Texprint, we are proud to supply an extensive array of garments from Giildan including t-shirts, polo shirts and tank tops. All of these garments are guaranteed to be of the highest quality, as are the embroidery and Direct to Garment processes we use to decorate them.
